Anti-pollution drive to cost Rs 24 cr in Faridabad

Faridabad, January 12

The Faridabad Municipal Corporation has announced plans to launch a massive long-term drive to deal with the problem of pollution in the city.

It is reported that funds to the tune of Rs 24 crore have already been sanctioned for the purpose.

Faridabad has been among the top polluted cities for the past many years, with its AQI remaining very poor and hazardous for a major part of the year.

As many as 37 spots have been identified as pollution hotspots in the city.

Claiming that groundwork for the drive has begun, a senior official of the civic body said tenders for the various sub-projects were expected to be floated very soon. Informing that the project was a part of the National Clean Air Programme, an initiative of the Centre, he said it envisaged conducting an in-depth study of the factors causing pollution.

“The Faridabad MC is set to procure machinery for the project. An STP will also be set up for ensuring water supply for sprayers. It also consists of the planting 40,000 trees and road repair work,” Birender Kardam, Chief Engineer, Horticulture, and Nodal Officer (Pollution), Faridabad MC, said.
