Amid protest, farmers to take part in Mahendragarh livestock event

Amid the farmers’ agitation in many districts including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, Ambala, the state government is set to host a grand livestock exhibition at the Central University of Haryana in Jant Pali village of Mahendergarh district from February 24 to February 26.

BUSES, VETS DEPLOYED

• Dr Subhash Chander, DDAH, Hisar, said the department had arranged 36 buses for the transportation of the dairy farmers from all the four subdivisions of the district to Jant Pali village on all three days of the exhibition.
• He said veterinary doctors had been deployed on each bus, adding that 150 cattle had been selected for the livestock show.

To ensure a good turnout of the cattle breeders and farmers, the state Animal Husbandry Department has been making preparations for ferrying them to the 40th edition of the exhibition.

The event is being jointly organised by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, and Haryana Livestock Development Board.

Dr Subhash Chander, Deputy Director (Animal Husbandry), Hisar, said the department had arranged 36 buses for the transportation of the cattle farmers from all the four subdivisions of Hisar district to Jant Pali village on all three days of the exhibition. The busses would also transport the breeders back from the exhibition, he added.

Chander said Animal Husbandry Department veterinary doctors had been deployed on each bus, adding that 150 cattle had been selected for the livestock show in the exhibition.

The department had instructed breeders participating in the exhibition to contact the veterinary hospital nearest to them to avoid any problem in traveling to the exhibition.

In Bhiwani district as well, the administration has arranged vehicles for the participation of animal farmers.

Bhiwani Deputy Director (Animal Husbandry) Dr Ravindra Sehrawat said, “Various competitions will be organised in 50 categories of 11 types of livestock in the exhibition.”

“The winning cattle breeders will be given prizes worth Rs 1 lakh. In the livestock exhibition, superior breeds of animals like cow, buffalo, sheep, goat, camel, horse etc. have been included to attract visitors,” he added.

He said the cattle farmers who wish to participate in the exhibition should register themselves at the government veterinary centres.

“Cattle rearers and farmers will get information about modern technologies, products and equipment related to animal husbandry, agriculture, horticulture and fish farming, for which separate stalls and exhibitions will be set up,” he said.
