Gurugram, June 15

After a gap of almost two months, Gurugram reported over 400 Covid cases today taking the positivity rate up to 9.63 per cent. The local administration got on its toes and has mandated challans in all public places.

DC Nishant Yadav has issued directives to all malls, restaurants, market associations, banquet halls and party or entertainment places to ensure compliance of mask, sanitisation and social distancing norms. Special teams have been constituted to issue challans for non-wearing of masks. The police too have been roped in for this work.

“Cases are on the rise and we are taking it seriously. It’s important that people too become cautious and take precautions. There is nothing to panic. The situation is under control,” said Yadav.

Gurugram had been reporting over 200 cases since the past five days but today, the cases jumped to 406. Majority of those testing positive have a history of either recent travel or tourism or attending a social gathering. Children form a major part of the positive cases.

Twelve people are currently in hospital but health authorities say there is nothing to panic about.

“The patients in hospital are the ones who went for alternative treatments but tested positive in hospital. The numbers are increasing but symptoms are not severe. People need to be cautious. They need to wear masks, isolate and sanitise. On our part, we have stepped up testing to over 4,000 a day and vaccine is readily available,” said CMO Dr Virender Yadav.
