Chandigarh, October 18

Haryana recorded 76.3 per cent seropositivity in the third round of sero survey. It had recorded 8 per cent in the first round and 14.8 per cent in the second round.

The sample size in the third round was 36,250.

Seropositivity means having the presence of antibodies in blood serum.

Health Minister Anil Vij said, “Haryana is working on a war footing to vaccinate the eligible population against Covid. During the third round of the sero survey, an assessment was made regarding the efficacy of the vaccination programme in the state.”

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajeev Arora said, “One of the major challenges before the Health Department was the enlarged sample size of 36,520 in the third round. Secondly, it was a task to test all samples at the District Civil Hospital Lab, Panchkula.”

In urban areas, the sero-positivity was 78.1 per cent, while in rural areas, it was 75.1 per cent.

Arora clarified that the impact of aggressive vaccination supplemented to higher sero-prevalence.

“The results of the third round are somewhat near to the level of achieving herd immunity, but large proportion of population is still vulnerable. Therefore, enforcing Covid-appropriate behaviour is still a priority,” he added.
