Ballabgarh, June 17

The police have rounded up as many as 50 youths in connection with the stone-throwing incident that took place around 10.45 am today on NH-19 near Anaj Mandi at Ballabgarh town here.

A group of youths, consisting mainly of students, had assembled at the spot and started hurling stones on vehicles moving towards Palwal. According to reports, stone pelting continued for about half an hour with protesters raising slogans against the ‘Agnipath’ scheme.

They were dispersed soon by the police which resorted to cane charge.

Claiming that 50 suspects have been rounded up, a police official said that arrests would be made after proper identification and verification on the basis of CCTV footage and videos of the incident.

The police said imposition of Section 144 and suspension of internet continues to remain in place in Ballabgarh subdivision of the district till further orders.

Meanwhile, no major fresh protests were reported in Gurugram today, but owing to the situation in the neighbouring districts, Section 144 was imposed as a precaution.

The police remained on high alert and dispersed people who tried protest in Sohna Pataudi and Chandu.

DC Nishant Yadav said it was likely that crowds could assemble around railway station and bus stand and hence, Section 144 was imposed.

Youths also reportedly tried to interrupt rail services near Haily Mandi, but they were stopped before they could reach the railway track.
