45% Faridabad water, sewer connections illegal

Though the city has a total of five lakh households and other units with water and sewer connections, it is learnt that only 2.75 lakh units are paying bills. A majority of illegal (kundi) connections are in slum clusters and densely populated colonies of NIT and old Faridabad area.

The civic authorities, sources said, proposed tough measures, including FIRs. Admitting to the menace, the Superintending Engineer, MCF, Virender Kardam, said a drive would be launched soon to regularise all illegal connections after a fresh survey. “Cases will be filed against those who fail to get their connections regularised within the stipulated period,” said a spokesperson for the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF). Notices in this regard would be issued soon. During video-conferencing recently, the Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies, directed the officials to launch a month-long drive beginning January 15. Sources claimed that those supplying water in tankers had been “exploiting piped water supply”.

Against a demand of 262 MLD daily, the MCF has been supplying 250 MLD of water daily to the city with a population of 18 lakh, it is revealed. The total revenue generated from water and sewer connections is Rs 10 crore annually.
