2 suspected cases of monkeypox in Yamunanagar

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy and his one-and-a-half-year-old sister, suspected to be suffering from monkeypox, have been admitted to an isolation ward set up for monkeypox patients in the trauma centre of Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital here.

No travel history

These are suspected cases of monkeypox. Samples have been taken and sent to AIIMS-Delhi for confirmation. The family has no travel history They are placed in isolation. They were receiving treatment by private doctors. Dr Manjeet Singh, Civil surgeon

“These are suspected cases of monkeypox. We have taken the samples, which have been sent to AIIMS Delhi for confirmation. The family has no travel history,” said Dr Manjeet Singh, Civil Surgeon, Yamunanagar.

The Civil Surgeon said they received information about the children with monkeypox symptoms on Friday evening.

“We immediately sent an ambulance to rush the children to the isolation ward, where they are receiving treatment,” Dr Singh said.

The children were suffering from fever for past several days and had with skin lesions. They were being treated by private doctors, the Civil Surgeon added.

“A five-bed isolation ward had been set up at the hospital for monkeypox patients,” he said.

Schools have also advised parents to take precautionary measures. “Children suffering with symptoms of runny nose, fever, mouth ulcers, pain in throat, blisters or red spots on hands and feet should not be sent to school till the symptoms subside,” reads a message sent by a school to the parents.
