17-yr-old dies of drug overdose in Hisar, 3rd death in 2 months

The death of a 17-year-old youth due to drug overdose has again brought the issue of drug addiction to the fore. This is the third death due to overdose in Hisar in the past two months.

Addict jumps to death at Hospital

A man, who was admitted to a drug de-addiction centre at LNJP Hospital in Kurukshetra, jumped to death on Friday, police said. The deceased, identified as Rajesh Kumar of Mohan Nagar, was in his 30s. Kurukshetra police station SHO Devender Singh said: “Rajesh was a drug addict. He was admitted to the centre 4-5 days ago. As per his mother, Rajesh went to the roof of the hospital and jumped from there. A post-mortem will be conducted on Saturday.”

As per information, a youth was found dead near the bushes in Rajiv Nagar locality this evening. The deceased has been identified as Vicky, son of Shailender Singh of the same locality.

According to eyewitnesses, the youth had a syringe injected in his arm. The police took the body to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The incharge of the Barah Quarters police chowki, Amit Kumar, said, “The syringe indicated drug overdose. We will take further action on the basis of the postmortem report and the statement of his family.”

Sources said this was the third death due to overdose in Hisar. Earlier, a youth named Virender, 26, was found dead near the Hisar Cantonment on December 2. Another youth, Amit Kumar, 23, was found dead at Vikash Nagar on December 6. Two more youths had died under similar circumstances in August and September last year.Yograj Sharma, a social activist, said the problem of drug addiction seemed to be growing at an alarming rate.
