Rewari, July 3

The Sainik School here has been struggling to get its own building for the past 13 years. The school was started in 2009 and ever since, it has been run from a government building at Sector-4 in the city.

After Kunjpura (Karnal), this is Haryana’s second Sainik School. It has more than 500 students who have been residing at makeshift rooms in Rao Tularam Stadium here as the building does not have hostel facility. It also doesn’t have a playground and Physical Training (PT) sessions are conducted daily in the stadium. The distance between the school building and stadium is over 2.5 km.

Though the campus for Sainik School is being developed at Pali-Gothra village in the district for the past several years, the construction work has not yet been completed due to sluggish pace. The work also remained halted for several months due to non-availability of funds.

“After their classes, the students are bound to do self-study for two hours in the evening but study rooms are not available in an adequate number. Hence, students of board classes go to the school again for the same. The facilities of swimming pool, horse-riding and other games are required in the school premises for overall development of students but they are deprived of such facilities,” said sources.

Col Soumyabrata Dhar, Principal, Sainik School, said as per memorandum of understanding, the school building was to be provided in 2012 after completion of the entire construction work but the school does not have its own building even after 13 years of its inception in 2009.

“All sorts of academic and sports facilities are necessary in a Sainik School but it is unfortunate that students are residing in a makeshift hostel. Teachers too are living in rented accommodations in nearby places,” he said.

Ashok Garg, Deputy Commissioner, said he recently inspected the construction work being carried out and directed the officers concerned to complete all pending works at the earliest.

“The officers have been directed to ensure the conduct of classes of Sainik School in new building from September 1 so that students do not face any inconvenience,” said Garg.
