Rewari, May 9

Thirteen Covid-positive undertrials escaped from an under-construction jail at Fideri village after cutting the lock of their barrack last night.

Nine of them were brought here from the Narnaul jail and four from Rewari city jail three days ago. They are accused of various heinous crimes.

The Fideri jail is functioning as a dedicated Covid care centre to isolate and extend medical treatment to Covid-positive undetrials. In all, 493 inmates from various districts were lodged here on Saturday.

The incident came to light this morning when the jail officials counted inmates. The accused used clothes to scale the jail wall after breaking open the lock.

“Four teams have been constituted to trace and nab the escapees. Raids have been conducted in Jaipur and Alwar in this regard,” said Rewari SP Abhishek Jorwal.
