Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, boys emerge champions

Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, emerged champions in the inaugural edition of the Little League District Baseball Championship held here at Guru Nanak Public School, Model Town, on January 18 and 19.

Six teams (boys U-13) vied for top honours in this two-day championship organised by the Ludhiana District Baseball Association.

Hosts Guru Nanak Public School, Model Town, and Nightingale Public Senior Secondary School, Shimla Puri, secured second and third position, respectively.

In the first match, Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, prevailed over Guru Nanak International Public School 1-0 and the second match was played between Nightingale Public Senior Secondary School and Sunshine Convent School in which the former came out victorious 2-0 while Guru Nanak Public School scrambled past Nightingale Baseball Club 3-2.

These three victorious teams qualified for the league phase wherein, Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, overpowered Guru Nanak Public School 7-6; Guru Nanak Public School defeated Nightingale Public Senior Secondary School 3-2 and Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, beat Nightingale Public Senior Secondary School 5-3.

With two wins in as many matches, Guru Nanak School, Janta Nagar, romped home as champions with Deepak, Jashan and Simran playing exceedingly well to steer their team emerge winners.

Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, general secretary, Punjab Baseball Association; and Mona Kaur, principal, Guru Nanak Public School, Model Town, gave away prizes to the winners.

Harbir Singh Gill, president, Ludhiana District Baseball Association, along with Neeru, Harjinder Kaur, Gurdeep Singh, Suraj, Shiva and Jatinder Kumar Thakur was present on this occasion.
