The Bhikhiwind police on Wednesday booked Giani Jaswant Singh, a former granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, under Section 295-A of the IPC for allegedly using derogatory remarks against Jesus Christ.

Giani Jaswant Singh had passed the remarks in a religious congregation in Balehar village about two-and-a-half months ago.

Though he had tendered his apology for the remarks but the Christian community was demanding registering of a criminal case against Giani Jaswant Singh.

The police said Rohit Khokhar, leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Amritsar, had lodged a complaint to the district police demanding action against the granthi. The case had been registered on the complaint of Rohit Khokhar.

Earlier, a few days back members of the Christian community had lodged a protest in Amritsar and demanded action against the priest.
