Patiala, January 14

The Punjab Gau Sewa Commission has decided to make cattle pounds self-reliant by making provisions for preparing manure from waste at the shelters.

The commission has already started holding medical camps at the ‘gaushalas’.

Commission Chairman Sachin Sharma said the first such project would be implemented at the gaushala in Gazipur village near Samana. The commission will also involve private gaushalas in the project. He said: “The manure prepared at the cattle-ponds will be sold in the market which will generate revenue for them, provide them with financial assistance and make them self-reliant.”

He said the same procedure will be reciprocated at other government-run gaushalas in the state.
