Sumsa Supari and Rowel Star open up on their musical journey

Show comments

While we have Badshah and Honey Singh from Punjab, who are ruling the rap world, Sumsa Supari and Rowel Star have been making headlines for their Rajasthani rap. The journey of both these singers has been quite interesting. While Sumsa rose to fame with hit tracks Jaat Anthem and Flying Arrow, Rowel Star is riding high on the success of Kajlio Rap, Banna Sa Ke Mijaj and Jay Maa Jasol album. Sumer Ram Khadav, popularly known as Sumsa Supari, is a farmer from Nandwan village of Rajasthan.

He says, “I am a huge fan of YoYo Honey Singh and have been listening to his songs since I was a kid. I wanted to bring rap into Rajasthani culture and have been striving towards doing it. But it has not been an easy road. People laughed at me and asked me to stick to farming. I am happy that I am able to prove myself.” On the other hand, Afzor Khan, known as Rowel Star, is a resident of Barmer district in Rajasthan. He says, “I take a lot of inspiration for my songs from Guru Randhawa. My vision is to mix folk with hip-hop and entertain the audience.”
