Simran Pareenja, currently seen in Star Bharat’s show Laxmi Ghar Aayi, talks about her role

Show comments

What made you say yes to the role of Maithali in Laxmi Ghar Aayi?

The character that I play in this show is very different. I truly hope and believe Maithali will inspire people because everyone gets scared in life but when the time is right, one must muster courage and stand up against any injustice or wrong they see happening around them.

What message do you wish to give through your role?

That taking and giving dowry is both immoral and evil. The girls are not a burden on their families or anyone — they are the pride and future of the nation.

Besides the social message, what do you think makes this show an interesting watch?

This show’s storyline is very beautifully written and is very real in today’s time. It will not only be drama-led, but will also have comedy. It’s a perfect package.

How comfortable are you shooting in the pandemic?

We all maintain social distance, wear masks and get our temperature checked before entering the sets. There is a system of sanitising the sets too. So I am quite comfortable with all the arrangements.

How do you keep yourself fit?

I take my health very seriously. While I meditate and do yoga, I am also into some weight training. I drink a lot of water and make sure that I eat home-cooked food.

What has been your most challenging role till date?

I think the role of Gunjan, in my previous show, was challenging because she could not speak and sign language is really difficult.

Whom do you consider your role model?

I really like Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Claire Foy, Kangana Ranaut, the late Irrfan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan... My list can go on; they are all my role models.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I see myself searching for good content and stories. I will maybe try a web series.

What’s next for you?

Right now, it’s Lakshmi Ghar Aayi and then I might have a Telugu movie release.

A character you would want to play someday?

Recently I watched Sherni and liked the role played by Vidya Balan. I hope I get a chance to play such a role in the near future.
