Sanjay Dutt was once into drugs, it’s no secret. We’ve seen it in his biopic Sanju, and in fact, on numerous occasions, the actor himself spoke about it. This time around, he opened up on why he took to drugs. In an interview with Youtuber Ranveer Allahabadia, Sanjay Dutt shared that he thought drugs made him look cool among women. The actor said, “I am very shy, aloof kind of person, especially with women. So, I started it to look cool.” As was the notion, he adds, “You do it and you become a cooler guy with ladies, you talk to them.”

Remembering those days when he returned from the rehabilitation centre, where he spent two years. Sanjay Dutt said, “Ten years of my life I was in my room, or in the bathroom, hiding, even not interested in shoots.”

It’s the time in rehab that made the actor realise what real life is like. “When I spent time with others at the centre, did different activities like boating, barbequing and what not as part of rehabilitation, I realised this is what real life is like, and that’s how everything changed.”

Sanjay Dutt got into working out and fitness when he came back from the rehabilitation centre. There was a time in his life when people started addressing him as ‘charsi’, “When I came back, people used to call me charsi. And I thought, yeh galat hai bohat. People on the road started saying that to me. I thought kuch karna padega. So, I started working out. And from being called a charsi, I became this guy who had swag and people said ‘kya body hai,” Sanjay Dutt added as he spoke about the drug episode of his life on the podcast.
