Abhishek Chauhan speaks about his new show, Cubicles

Show comments

In Cubicles there is a line which says ‘Life is all about choices you make’. How much do you relate to it?

A lot. I have made choices in my life on my own and also have faced the consequences. But I have kept on making choices.

How did the thought of being an actor come up?

Quite early in my life. I liked watching Hindi films. My family has been a solid support and they are always encouraging me.

What were the challenges you faced in Cubicles’ second season?

As an actor I have already played the character in the first season and after a gap I had to play this with zeal and passion. It was challenging to relive it all over again to make it interesting for the audience. Also, shooting under Covid circumstances was indeed challenging.

How do you approach a new role?

My initial years were spent in doing theatre. So, my approach had been from the stage perspective. But on camera I let myself flow with the director’s vision. Every show needs a new approach.

Between Undekhi and Cubicles what all have you done during the lockdown?

During the first lockdown I was in Mumbai with my flatmate. We had a great time. After two-and-half months I went to my hometown Dehradun. Right now I am spending some quality time with my family. And, I am using the time to be with myself.

Who is your inspiration in the field of acting?

Apart from acting I adore people from different walks of life. But two names which come to my mind instantly are Robert Di Niro and Manoj Bajpayee.

What’s your focus now as an actor?

I really want to do films. I grew up watching films. I am learning with every project and looking forward to doing good roles. I have done a film called Bahut Hua Samman which was released on OTT.

How do you unwind yourself?

I don’t take much stress in life. Post-pandemic I have realised I feel at peace in my hometown. This place takes me back to my roots.

What do you like and dislike about Mumbai?

I love the vibes of Mumbai, especially the pace of the city. People here are very warm. The humidity is something which I don’t like.
