Chandigarh, January 26

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and India batsman Shreyas Iyer were engaged in a hilarious banter on Instagram that left netizens in splits.

Iyer smashed a 29-ball 58 runs and played an important role in India’s victory in the first T20I at Eden Park as the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Following India’s win, the actor and the batsman were seen having a light conversation on social media after Ranveer uploaded a picture of himself.

On Ranveer’s post, Iyer left a comment saying: “aag hai bhai”. To this, Ranveer replied: “Aag to tumne lagayi hai pardes mein Shreyas Babu.”

Meanwhile, Iyer solidified at his position at number four with an unbeaten 58 off 29 balls.

It was a near perfect start of the tour for the away team which chased down 204 with relative ease to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Ahead of the Indian team's departure, there was concern about constant shuffling, much like the ODI experimentation ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

Iyer's form has put paid to all that chatter. The batsman has figured in all of India's 12 T20Is since September last year, averaging 34.14 in 11 innings with two half-centuries and strike-rate 154.19. With his match-winning temperament at Eden Park, Iyer has stitched down a spot in the batting line-up for good.

"It feels good to finish the match and that too by hitting a six," Iyer said in a chat with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on Chahal TV which was shared by BCCI.

"We needed one important partnership, ground was small and in four overs 50 can also be made on this ground, so we decided one boundary an over and then bowler also comes under pressure," Iyer said of his and Pandey's mindset during the chase.

"When you hit a six to finish a match, the feeling is special. My aim is to always finish games whatever time I spend on the pitch. We have players like Virat bhai, Rohit bhai who finish games and staying with them helps you learn," he added. — With Agencies
