Saudi Arabia shines at book fair

Saudi Arabia takes the spotlight as the distinguished guest of honour at the New Delhi World Book Fair, being held at Pragati Maidan. This year’s edition adds a distinctive cultural flavour to the event, showcasing the kingdom’s abundant literary heritage.

With a delegation comprising 25 representatives from Saudi Arabia, the fair promises to offer insights into the country’s rich cultural and literary traditions. Abdullatif Alwasel, publishing general manager of the Saudi Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, expressed enthusiasm about the participation, underscoring the significance of sharing Saudi Arabian culture with Indian attendees.

Alwasel remarked, “We are delighted and honoured to be part of the book fair this year. We are fully prepared to engage and explore opportunities with the Indian populace. The close relationship between the Indian and Saudi populations necessitates our presence here to promote and educate about Saudi Arabian culture.”

Emphasising the event’s importance in strengthening bilateral relations, Alwasel referred to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud’s visit to New Delhi in 2019 and the subsequent signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on cultural affairs.

Jointly organised by the National Book Trust and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), the fair’s theme, “Multilingual India: A Living Tradition”, aims to showcase the rich diversity of languages and cultures across the nation.

With gates open from 11 am to 8 pm daily, visitors have the opportunity to delve into a wide array of literary offerings spanning various genres and languages.

Entry to the fair is complimentary for children in school uniform, senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. For other attendees, tickets are affordably priced at Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children. The fair boasts over 2,000 stalls, providing a treasure trove of books and literary delights for attendees to explore.
