New Delhi, January 28

With the recent arrests of four suspected ISI-backed terrorists — three from National Capital and one in Gujarat — and their subsequent interrogation, security and intelligence agencies have alerted the Delhi Police to remain “extra vigilant” in view of the ongoing Assembly poll campaign in the city.

Sources in the security establishment said subsequent to the interrogation details of the arrested, which were further corroborated by technical surveillance team of the special cell of Delhi Police, it was found that their handlers were ISI officials, who disguised them as IS operatives.

As per the interrogation report, a senior IB official said: “They revealed that they had instructions to target political leaders in Delhi-NCR, particularly in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Delhi.” They were asked to identify their targets with the help of electoral posters across the national capital, where the leaders would be depicted with their name and photo. — TNS
