Mercury 2°C below normal, air quality improves to ‘moderate’

New Delhi, February 6

Delhi on Tuesday recorded the minimum temperature at 7°C, two notches below the season’s average, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum temperature also stabilised 2°C below normal at 21 degrees.

Chilly wind from the Northwest direction blew during the day. The sky was mainly clear during the day, however, the IMD has predicted that cloudy sky would be observed at night. Dense fog was observed in isolated pockets and shallow to moderate fog was seen at most places in the capital.

For Wednesday, IMD said that partly cloudy sky would be witnessed with mist in the morning and strong surface winds blowing at a speed on 20-30 kpmh during the day. The maximum and minimum temperature would be recorded at 21°C and 7°C, respectively.

The IMD has forecasted a dry spell in the coming days and the minimum temperature will range from 6-7°C. The lowest minimum temperatures in Delhi were recorded at Lodi Road and Safdarjung, at 7°C. Meanwhile, the air quality has improved to ‘moderate’ category it was recorded at 141 at 4 pm today by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the Early Warning System for Delhi, the air quality is likely to continue to be in ‘moderate’ category from February 7-9 and for the subsequent six days, it will be in ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category.

The air quality was improved to ‘moderate’ category in many areas – Anand Vihar (185), New Moti Bagh (162), Patparganj (140), Punjabi Bagh (151), Rohini (109), Shadipur (130) and Sonia Vihar (140). This has been the best air quality spell in a long time since October 19.
