New Delhi, January 24

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and MP Manoj Tiwari welcomed Lokayukta’s notices to former Delhi Ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain regarding the classroom ‘scam’ on Wednesday.

Tiwari said: “Our advocate pursued the case well enough to ensure a notice to the two main culprits, Sisodia and Jain.” Accusing the AAP-led Delhi Government of evading proper tendering processes, the BJP leaders alleged that Sisodia and Jain had expedited approvals by breaking down the Rs 989-crore classroom project into 16 tenders.

‘Exposed’ in 2016-17

  • The BJP has labelled the classroom ‘scam’ as the Kejriwal-led government’s first major scandal, exposed in 2016-17
  • MP Manoj Tiwari said that in 2015, the Delhi Government had proposed building 7,180 classrooms at a cost of Rs 989 crore but irregularities had led to a prolonged project timeline

The leaders claimed that CM Arvind Kejriwal aimed to extract money from government projects. They further accused Kejriwal of ensuring that the files related to the scam did not reach his office or the cabinet committee. A hearing has been scheduled in the case for March 6, after Sisodia and Jain submit their replies. The BJP labelled the classroom scam as the Kejriwal-led government’s first major scandal exposed in 2016-17.
