New Delhi, March 1

During the discussion of the Economic Survey, Finance Minister Atishi emphasised that the Union Government and Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena spared no effort in obstructing the works of the Delhi Government. This obstruction extended to critical sectors such as the Delhi Jal Board, hospitals, Mohalla Clinics and the Farishtey Scheme.

‘Economy has grown at record pace’

This year has seen every possible effort to hinder the work of the Kejriwal govt. However, despite all obstacles, the economic survey numbers indicate that Delhi’s economy has grown at a record pace. — Atishi, Finance Minister

She noted that despite 2023-24 being a remarkable year for the Kejriwal government, the L-G and the Central Government persistently obstructed the work of Delhi government officers.

Atishi stated, “After eight years of legal battles, the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench, in a unilateral decision, declared that the elected government of Delhi has all powers except for land, law and order and police. However, within eight days, the Centre, through an ordinance, brought a new law to strip away all powers of the elected government of Delhi and handed them over to the L-G.”

She further expressed concern over repeated threats and intimidation faced by Delhi Government officers during the year. Many officers were warned of suspension and vigilance inquiries if they supported the elected government, and actions were taken against several officers, instilling fear that working with the elected government could harm their careers. Additionally, officers, legislators and ministers were implicated in cases by the CBI and ED.

Atishi said, “This year has seen every possible effort to hinder the work of the Kejriwal government. However, despite all the conspiracies and obstacles, the economic survey numbers indicate that Delhi’s economy has grown at a record pace.”

She said regardless of the obstacles created by the Centre and its L-G, Kejriwal’s determination won’t stop.
