New Delhi, February 14

Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena has approved the acquisition of over 0.80 acres at Bharthal village for the long-pending Urban Extension Road (UER-II).

Proposed in the Delhi Master Plan as the third ring road for Delhi, it is aimed at decongesting Dhaula Kuan and other sections of both outer and inner ring roads by creating a bypass between North and South-West Delhi.

Officials said the acquisition was critical for the project’s completion. The non-acquisition of this land parcel alone had delayed the project by seven years, they added.

Officials at the L-G office said, “The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), on April, 2016, had requested for the acquisition of land at Bharthal village. However, the process could not be completed due to several pending litigations.”

The DDA had proposed this road from NH-1 to NH-2, connecting areas like Narela, Bawana and Rohini in North Delhi to Dwarka sub-city, IGI Airport and Gurugram. It also aims at connecting all the major NHs in the western side of Delhi, an official said.

“It will also provide an alternate route between Southern and Eastern parts of Haryana (including districts of Ambala, Panipat, Karnal, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh) to Delhi and Gurgaon and further up to Rajasthan,” the official added.
