New Delhi, January 25

Five persons, including four students, were killed when a floor of under-construction three-storey building collapsed in the city’s Bhajanpura area on Saturday, fire officials said.

They said around 30 students were attending classes at a coaching centre when the fourth floor of the building collapsed, trapping them under the debris. Thirteen persons have been shifted to a hospital, the officials said.

The Fire Department received a call around 4.30 pm, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said. A police officer said the building came crashing down on a nearby building whose coaching centre took the impact, leading to the deaths. “The rescue work is underway. Teams of NDRF, DFS and the police are making all efforts to rescue the people. Around 15 people are reportedly trapped in the debris,” DCP (North-East) Ved Prakash Surya said.

The officer said eight injured persons had been hospitalised. The condition of some of the injured is said to be critical. “Efforts are on to rescue the trapped,” he said. — Agencies
