New Delhi, January 14
Senior officers of the Delhi Police on Tuesday said the process of clearing a road in Delhi was initiated after the Delhi High Court directed the police to look into the traffic restrictions on the Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch. The police have engaged traders’ body, religious leaders and community elders to end the blockade.
They said the police were making efforts to persuade the protestors, instead of using force, to clear the busy arterial road, which is causing inconvenience to many people in South Delhi and also those who commute to Noida every day.
Earlier during the day, the Delhi High Court said the police had the power to control traffic wherever protests were going on and directed it to look into a plea against restrictions on Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch, which has been closed for a month due to agitations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
