Ludhiana 14 succumb as virus rages on

300 fresh infections take dist tally to 11,214

The district today reported a whopping 300 positive cases and 14 deaths due to the virus. The number of patients on ventilator support at present has gone up to 32.

The deceased include 10 men. The patients were in the age group of 40-60 years. Two patients each died at the CMCH, Civil Hospital, DMCH, SPS Hospital and one each at Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital, Astha Hospital, RHP Hospital, Deep Hospital, Pancham Hospital and Raghunath Hospital.

There have been 474 deaths due to Covid in the district and Ludhiana city accounts for 422 deaths. The rest of the deceased belonged to Khanna, Samrala, Payal, Jagraon and Raikot.

The number of positive patients in the district today reached up to 11,214, including 9,965 cases in the city.

The fresh infections include 115 cases reported from flu corners, 73 from OPDs and 33 cases surfaced during contact tracing. Fourteen healthcare workers and seven undertrials are among the positive cases.

No posters outside patients’ houses

In another step to boost the morale of patients, it has been decided by the government that no posters depicting the positive status of patients will be pasted outside their homes.

“The step taken by the government will help in instilling confidence among the patients as it will not give them a feeling of being outcast,” said a positive patient.

Six held for violations

The police have registered cases under Sections 188/269 of the IPC and 21 of the Disaster Management Act against the owners of an ice-cream parlour, a dhaba, a fast food joint and a dairy in Phase I of Dugri Market for keeping their shops open beyond the stipulated time of closure fixed by the district authorities. In another incident, six persons, including three women, all residents of Sihar village, were arrested for violation of Covid-19 restrictions while they were holding a protest at the Mini Secretariat. Those charged under Sections 188/269 of IPC and Section 51(1)(B) of the Disaster Management Act include Jagjit Kaur, Kamaljeet Kaur, Rani, Kuldeep Singh, Samanjeet Singh and Hardeep Singh.
