Highest spike in fatalities, 18 dead in Ludhiana

Today, 183 persons tested positive for Covid while 18 patients lost their battle with the virus, the highest fatalities in a single day in the district so far.

The deceased include 17 men and one woman. Six patients in the age group of 30-35 years died at SPS Hospital, Vardhman Mahaveer Hospital and Civil Hospital.

Two patients aged 43 years and 42 years died at the Civil Hospital and Balaji Hospital.

Three deceased in the age group of 56-59 years belonged to Janakpuri, Haibowal Kalan, Chandar Nagar, Pakhowal and New Subhash Nagar. Six deceased were in the age group of 60-70 years. A 93-year-old man from New Shivpuri, who died of Covid today, was also suffering from a coronary artery disease.

Of fresh infections, 67 people tested positive at flu corners, 44 at OPDs and 18 during contact tracing.

Meanwhile, mass media teams of the Civil Surgeon’s office, Ludhiana, are visiting every nook and corner of the city to motivate people for Covid sampling.

Many people still have doubts and fear regarding sampling. The mass media teams are encouraging such people to come forward for sampling. Sampling has been stepped up in the district.

Meanwhile, the Civil surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said testing had become the most important aspect in the fight with Covid-19.

“The main importance of sampling is that we can find asymptomatic persons at an early stage and break the chain of Covid-19. Asymptomatic patients are the cause of concern. The government is making all efforts to fight this virus, but people’s support is equally important for us,” he said. The Punjab Government has launched Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) for early detection and management of Covid-19 infections at an early stage, he added.

Dr Harjinder singh Barmi, District Mass Media and Education Officer, said teams are giving their best. “Our motive is to make people aware and get their sampling done. Mass media teams are working on it with full enthusiasm from day one and will continue with the same zeal till Punjab is free from this virus,” he said.

Health Minister visits Civil Hospital

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu made a surprise visit to the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana and inspected health facilities. He issued necessary directions to the hospital authorities and enquired about the number of patients admitted to the hospital and the facilities provided to them. He asked the staff of the hospital to ensure healthy diet for Covid patients.
