Cops in communication role

Joining the police force is on the wishlist of most children at least at some stage of their lives. The lure of uniform and the power that comes with this job are the things that make it a coveted one. But for everyone it is not possible to make it to the Indian Police Service. The state police forces are another way of making it to the police force. Though ensuring that law and order is maintained in the state is the key responsibility of policemen, there are posts wherein the “cop” may not have to perform beat duty. Handling the wireless and computer systems of the police force is also a major responsibility. One can get into the police force through this route too, by joining as a Constable or Head Constable in the wireless or tele-printer sections. The selection is based on a written as well as physical performance test.

METHOD OF RECRUITMENT

Three stages of the selection process for these posts include qualifying test, physical endurance test and the trade test

STAGE I Test

Qualifying the specific test is mandatory for getting selected.

Tests: Computer Based Examination

Exams Maximum Marks: 100 Marks

Qualifying

Test of Proficiency in Computer

Operation:

  • Test of English Word Processing Speed
  • 1000 key depression in 15 minutes

"Test of Basic Computer Functions:-

  • Opening/Closing of PC, printing, MS office usage
  • Saving & modification in typed text, paragraph
  • Setting & numbering etc.

Test pattern

Each of the five sections of the test are meant to test the breadth of knowledge of a candidate. So the stress should be on having knowledge about the basic concepts and latest happenings rather than on analytical and in-depth knowledge on specific topics.

  • General Awareness: The questions in this section are designed to test a candidate’s awareness about the environment around him/her and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test his/her knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries, especially pertaining to history, culture, geography, Indian economy general polity, Indian Constitution, scientific research.
  • General Science Physics: Understanding of the basic concepts of topics like thermodynamics, mechanics, Newton’s Law of Motion, Gravity, Motion, Pressure, Units of Measurement, sound, Heat & Temperature, Electronics, Magnetism, Ohm’s Law, Number systems, Fiber Optics, Mode of Communication etc.

Chemistry: Chemistry of everyday life, commonly used chemicals, important catalysts, reactions, Commercial applications of chemicals, chemical and physical change, definition- based questions, acids (Sulphuric Acid, Hydrochloride), Atomic Number, Elements and their symbols and Electro Chemistry etc.

Mathematics: Number systems, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Averages, simple and Compound interest, Profit, Loss & Discount, Time, Distance & Work, Algebra (Equations, Surds, Indices, Graphs), Geometry, Menstruation, Trigonometry, Data Interpretation, Sequence & Series, Permutation & Combination and Simplification.

  • Reasoning: Non-Verbal Reasoning (figures, Analogy, Alphanumeric Series, Number Series, Critical Thinking, Coding and de-coding, Logical reasoning, Input-Output, Blood Relations, Syllogisms, Table, Directions/Ranking Test, Venn Diagrams, Seating Arrangement, Codes inequalities and Data Sufficiency.
  • Computer Fundamental

This includes MS Word, Communication, Internet, www and Web Browsers etc. This paper will include questions on the following:

1. Elements of Word Processing (Word Processing Basics, Opening and Closing Documents, Text Creation, Formatting the Text and Its presentation features).

2. MS Excel (Elements of Spread Sheet, Editing of Cells, Functions and Formulas).

3. Communication (Basics of E-mail, Sending/receiving of Emails and its related functions).

4. Internet, WWW and Web Browsers (Internet, Services on Internet, URL, http, FTP, Web sites, Blogs, Web Browsing Software, Search Engines, Chat, Video conferencing, e-Banking) etc.

STAGE II

Physical endurance & measurement tests

The candidates who come within the range of merit of Computer Based Examination equal to twenty (20) times the number of vacancies advertised in each category i.e. General/SC/ST/OBC/EWS and Ex-servicemen (category-wise) shall be called for appearing in the PE&MT, subject to securing minimum 40 per cent marks under General/EWS Category (minimum 35 per cent in case of SC/ST/OBC and 30 per cent under Ex-Servicemen category). In case there are a large number of candidates on cutoff marks, all candidates on that cutoff for the relevant category will be called for the PE&MT.

The candidates qualified in the Physical Endurance Tests (Race, Long Jump and High Jump) as prescribed in para 5(iv)(A) and para 5(iv)(B) shall have to further appear in Physical Measurement Tests i.e. Height/Chest (male candidates) and Height (female candidates) as per the standards prescribed for the post.

STAGE IIi

Trade test (reading & dictation)-(qualifying)

The candidates qualifying the Physical Endurance & Measurement Tests (PE&MT) will be called for Trade Test. The Trade Test (Reading & Dictation) is to assess candidate’s capability to transmit and receive messages. This test will be taken in the form of reading and dictation. The dictation, both in Hindi and English languages, will be given to the candidates in groups comprising suitable number of candidates taking dictation in a group. The candidates having more than 50 per cent mistakes in dictation will be disqualified. The reading test will require each candidate to read a passage from the given text both in Hindi and English.

Test of proficiency in computer operation: All candidates who qualify the Trade Test (Reading & Dictation) will be required to appear for a Test of Proficiency in Computer Operation which will be of qualifying in nature

(i) Test of English word processing speed-1000 key depressions in 15 minutes. This test is conducted on computer and adjudged on the basis of correct entry of words/key depressions as per given printed passage in English containing 200 words, would be given to each candidate, who would enter the same in the Computer in Word Format of MS Office.

Note: Candidate who make 25 mistakes or more, shall be disqualified.

(ii) Test of Basic Computer Functions: Opening/Closing of PC, Printing, Ms Office usage, saving & modification in typed text, paragraph setting & numbering etc).

10 features of formatting, as listed above may be tested in each text with ½ mark each for every feature of formatting. In case of formatting features if the candidates carry out formatting as per the specimen, ½ mark each will be given. Otherwise, no marks will be given. Out of the 05 marks for the formatting features for each test, a candidate should secure at least 3 marks in each test to qualify. There is no bar to candidates correcting the mistakes by use of editing tools.

Time to apply

Delhi Police direct recruitment for the post of Head Constable (Assistant wireless operator/tele-printer operator)

Online applications are invited from male and female Indian citizens for filling up the following vacancies for the post of temporary Head Constable (Assistant Wireless Operator/Tele-printer Operator) (Group 'C') in Delhi Police in Level-4 in pay matrix (Rs25,500-Rs81,100) plus usual and admissible allowance to the Central Government Employees from time to time. They will be governed under Delhi Police Act and Central Civil Services Rules applicable to other member of the force and other Acts and Rules applicable from time to time.

On appointment they shall be entitled for the pension benefits as per the "New Restructured Defined Contributory Pension Scheme" applicable for the new entrants to the Central Government Services with effect from 01.01.2004


How to apply

Applicants can apply on https://delhipolice.nic.in till January 27, 2020 (5 pm). The candidates opting to pay fee through challan of SBI, may make the payment to designated branches of SBI within the working hours of bank up to January 28, 2020, provided the challan has been generated before 5pm on January 27.

Application fee: Candidates have to pay Rs100 through SBI Challan, netbanking any credit/debit card or UPI. Women candidates and candidates in SC, ST and Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from fee payment

Age limit: Between 18 and 27 years (UR/EWS) as on July 1, 2019

Educational qualifications: Class XII pass from a recognised board with PCM as subjects at the time of filling up of application form.

Or

National Trade Certificate in the trade of Mechanic-Cum-Operator Electronic Communication System.

Professional requirement:

(IV) Physical endurance test (Qualifying):

(A) Male Candidates: For candidates including ex-servicemen and departmental candidates (age-wise) will be as under:-

Age: Upto 30 years

Race 1600 Meters: 7 minutes

Long Jump: 12 ½ feet (12'6")

High Jump: 3 ½ feet (3'6")

Age: Above 30 to 40 years

Race 1600 Meters: 8 minutes

Long Jump: 11 ½ feet (11'6")

High Jump: 3 ½ feet (3'3")

Above 40 years Race 1600 Meters: 9 minutes

Long Jump: 10 ½ feet (10'6") High Jump: 3 feet

(B) Female candidates:

For candidates including departmental candidates and widow/divorced/judicially separated women candidates (age-wise) be as under:-

Age: Upto 30 years

Race 800 Meters: 5 minutes

Long Jump: 9 feet

High Jump: 3 feet

Age: Above 30 to 40 years

Race 800 Meters: 6 minutes

Long Jump: 9 feet

High Jump: 2 ½ feet (2'6")

Age: Above 40 years

Race 800 Meters: 7 minutes

Long Jump: 7 feet

High Jump: 2 ½ feet (2'3")

Medical Standard:-

a) The candidates should be sound health, free from disease, defect or deformity.

b) Better eye 6/6 without glasses. Worse eye 6/36 corrected with glass 6/9 or 6/12 without glass (both eyes). The candidates should be free from colour blindness.
