Youth arrested for raping 20-year-old

The Nayagaon police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl of his locality.

The suspect has been identified as Sarwan (21), a resident of Janata Colony, Nayagaon.

Sarwan was working at a medical laboratory in Mohali.

In her complaint, the victim said she had met the suspect in 2016 when she was studying at Panjab University.

She said the same year, Sarwan had entered her house at night when she was alone. He gagged her and allegedly raped her. She was also raped the following day and he made objectionable videos of her. He threatened to upload the videos on the social media if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

After a few days, Sarwan promised to marry her and even deleted the videos to win her faith. However, he later refused to marry her following which she disclosed the matter to her parents. The girl said he had lured her on the pretext of marriage.

After recording the girl's statement, the police arrested Sarwan from his residence last night.

A case has been registered against him under Sections 376 and 376 (2) (n) of the IPC at the Nayagaon police station.

He was produced in the local court, which sent him to the Ropar jail today.
