Ambala, July 15
An undertrial allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a grill of his cell at the Central Jail here today.
The undertrial has been identified as Najargir (42), a resident of Rajpura, Patiala district. He was arrested in a case of carjacking by the CIA-I unit of the Ambala police on July 7. A father-son duo of Ambala had suffered bullet injuries in the incident on July 3. Najargir used a piece of cloth to hang himself from the grill of his cell.
Ambala Central Jail Superintendent Lakhbir Singh said: “We got information that an undertrial committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill of his cell early this morning. The reason behind the extreme step could not be ascertained. A judicial probe was initiated in the matter.”
Gaurav Kumar, SHO of Baldev Nagar, said: “The matter is being probed by a judicial magistrate. Najargir was sent to the jail on July 11.”
The kin of the deceased said they met Nazargir on Thursday and he looked fine. He had asked his family members to file his bail application.
On July 8, Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa had told that during questioning, the accused disclosed that he stole an Activa scooter from Dera Bassi on June 3 and robbed a girl of her two-wheeler at gunpoint on the Airport Road, Mohali, on June 12. He was planning to commit some big crime. After suffering loss in the photography business, Najargir started committing crimes.”
