Mohali, March 16

A local court today sent Sheetal Sharma, one of the prime suspects in the cop murder case, to judicial custody, while extended the police remand of the other suspect, Iqbal Singh, by two days.

The prime suspects were produced in a local court today. According to the police, they had sought an extension in Iqbal Singh’s remand so as to interrogate him more and recover Rs 10 lakh, which he had taken from the victim, Kulwinder Singh.

SI Barma Singh, the investigating officer in the case, said Iqbal Singh’s car that was recovered by the police had blood stains.

The police had arrested the two suspects on March 13, two days after the cop’s body was found in a plastic bag here.

Kulwinder Singh, a senior assistant in the Intelligence Headquarters of the Punjab Police at Sector 77 here, was found murdered on the road connecting Deri village with the Airport Chowk.

Iqbal had allegedly killed Kulwinder after repeatedly hitting him on his head with a brick. Later, his body was packed in a plastic bag and dumped on the road.
