Two Chandigarh residents booked for assaulting couple

Chandigarh: The police have booked two Sector 44 residents who assaulted their neighbours. According to the police, complainant Abhimanyu Jhingan alleged that Amit and Ankit assaulted him and his wife at a park in Sector 44 on August 6. The couple, who suffered injuries, was admitted to the GMCH-32. —TNS

Juvenile apprehended for robbery

Chandigarh: The UT police have apprehended a 16-year-old boy for robbery. Two unknown persons had robbed a Mauli Jagran resident, Jagannath, on August 11. The suspects had dragged the victim in the forest area and attacked him with a knife before robbing him of his mobile phone and a purse containing Rs250 and documents. A case was registered. The minor has been sent to the Juvenile Home in Sector 25. — TNS

Jind man nabbed for cheating in exam

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested Pardeep, a native of Jind, Haryana, for cheating during an examination conducted for various posts of Group-C (multi-tasking staff) category at an examination centre in 3BRD, Air Force station, Chandigarh. The police had received a complaint from Davinder Singh Saini, Group Captain, Station Security Officer, following which a case was registered. —TNS

3 held under NDPS Act

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested three persons, natives of Himachal Pradesh, while possessing 25.50 grams of heroin. According to the police, Ranjit Singh (25), a native of Mandi, Vinay Dhiman (29) and Yogesh Kumar (27), both residents of Bilaspur, all occupants of a taxi, were arrested from Sector 36 while possessing heroin. —TNS

Gangster Bhupi’s remand extended

Dera Bassi: The court today extended the remand of gangster Bhupi Rana to four days. The police produced him before the court in connection with the murder of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera. On August 10, the Mohali police got three-day remand of Rana from the Dera Bassi court. Rana, lodged in the Kurukshetra jail, was produced before the court amid heavy police presence. — TNS
