Two arrested for house thefts

Chandigarh: Two burglars have been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police. The police claim to have solved three cases of house thefts with their arrest. Gaurav, alias Gora (26), and Suraj, alias Gindal (26), both residents of Ram Darbar, were arrested from near the Ram Darbar bus stop. The police said they were involved in three house thefts reported from the Mauli Jagran, Sector 36 and Sector 34 police station areas. Stolen gold jewellery items, including a chain, necklace, a nose ring, three mangal sutras, two pairs of earrings, two gold rings and silver jewellery, were recovered from them. TNS

Workshop on herbarium

Chandigarh: The department of botany and add-on course in floriculture and landscaping of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36, organised an online workshop on 'Insight into a Herbarium and Herbarium Methodology'. The resource person for the workshop was Dr Lal Babu Chaudhary, Senior Principal Scientist and Curator of Herbarium and Professor at AcSIR Plant Diversity, Systematics & Herbarium Division, CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. Chaudhary gave a comprehensive account of herbarium and the techniques involved in its preparation. TNS

Chandigarh: Local lad Karanveer Handa has been selected to join regular four-semester MBA course in IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain, a globally fourth ranking MBA programme. Handa, an alumnus of St Stephen's School and GGDSD College, is a charted financial analyst by profession. TNS

Athletics assn to issue certificates

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Athletics Association has announced that it would issue certificates of session 2020-2021 to athletes who won first three positions, respectively, at the State Athletics Meet 2020-21. The athletes can collect their certificates from the Sector 7 Sports Complex on June 17 from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The athletes must bring their residence proof of Chandigarh only or their identity cards of school/college/university/institution/department, date of birth certificate and passport size photos. TNS
