Tricity doctors raise alarm about air pollution

Chandigarh, April 6

Concerned over the rising air pollution levels and its impact on the health of people in Punjab, senior medical practitioners from tricity hospitals have highlighted the pressing need for action on air quality, both in terms of awareness and education.

The medics, who came together during an event organised by Clean Air Punjab, along with the Lung Care Foundation and Doctors for Clean Air, to mark World Health Day, also emphasised on taking active measures to reduce the risks of air pollution on health.

The event was aimed at drawing attention to the health cost of air pollution.

Senior doctors, including Dr Zafar Ahmad (senior consultant, Department of Pulmonology, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine, Fortis Hospital), Dr Vanita Gupta (president, IMA, Chandigarh), Prof Preeti Arun (MD, Psychiatry, and joint director, GRIID, Chandigarh), Dr Reena Jain (MD, paediatrics, and clinic in-charge, GRIID), Dr Diljot Singh Bedi (consultant paediatrics and neonatology, Fortis Hospital), Dr Wasim Ahmad (Assistant Professor, GRIID), along with senior journalist Taruni Gandhi were part of the panel. — TNS
