Chandigarh, March 24

The Municipal Corporation has deputed 10 special teams to dispose of waste from the houses of those who have been quarantined.

Teams were formed as directed by MC Commissioner KK Yadav. The teams keep a black carry bag outside the houses and ask people to drop the waste in it and tie it. Then, they spray to sanitise the bag. Later, it is thrown at the dumping ground in a scientific way.

The teams, headed by Chief Sanitary Inspector Chandermohan, are visiting the households wearing protective clothes. They collect waste from each quarantined house and keep it at the Dadu Majra-based dumping ground.

Additional Commissioner SK Jain said waste was being kept separately and after a few hours, the affect of virus, if any, is gone.

Dr Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health, said: “Teams were formed as directed by MC Commissioner KK Yadav. The teams keep a black carry bag outside the houses and ask the family to keep the waste in it and tie it. Following this, our teams spray to sanitise it. Later, it is thrown at the dumping ground in a scientific way. Once, it gets required sunlight, it will be processed.”

He said even the door-to-door garbage collectors have been given long sleeved gloves. “They have been given guidelines. We will ensure their safety and well-being,” he added.

Besides, the corporation has doubled the mechanical sweeping and started double shift for lifting wastes in city. “We are making sure that no waste is accumulated at Sehaj Safai Kendras or any other part of the city and is timely lifted,” said Warring.
