Suspended Chandigarh inspector gets bail in graft case

A local CBI court today granted bail to Jaswinder Kaur, a suspended UT police inspector, in a graft case.

While granting the bail, Special CBI Judge Sushil Kumar Garg directed the accused not to try to influence the prosecution witnesses in any manner.

Terminder Singh, counsel for the accused, said Jaswinder Kaur had cooperated with the investigating agency. He claimed that she was falsely implicated in the case.

Opposing the bail plea, public prosecutor KP Singh had stated that if released, the suspended cop would try to influence the material witnesses in one way or the other.

The court ordered that the accused should appear before the trial court on each and every date of hearing and shall not leave the country without the permission of the court. Jaswinder Kaur was ordered to surrender her passport within 15 days.

The court directed the suspended cop to mark her presence in the CBI office here once in 15 days, beginning September 21. In an event of non-compliance of any of these conditions, the CBI could move an application for cancellation of her bail.

The CBI had booked the former SHO of the Mani Majra police station for allegedly demanding Rs5-lakh bribe from a Mani Majra resident, Gurdeep Singh, in lieu of not registering a cheating case against him. — TNS
