Mohali, August 6

Jarnail Singh Bajwa, MD of Sunny Enclave, was on Thursday produced in the local court which remanded him to seven-day police custody.

The real estate developer was arrested yesterday by the Kharar police in connection with a property-related cheating case registered against him in 2019. A day before yesterday, he was arrested in several cases of cheque bounce, registered in Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

Kharar DSP Pal Singh said, “Today, the suspect was produced before a court which sent him to seven-day police custody. Now we will interrogate him regarding the case registered against him on the complaint of Jaspreet Singh, a resident of Sector 39, Chandigarh. The suspect had sold the plot of the complainant to a third party by breaking the agreement. The case dates back to November 2, 2019 and registered under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC at the Sadar Kharar police station.”

Bajwa’s counsel, Dinesh Kumar Sharma said Jaspreet Singh, an NRI, had purchased a plot costs Rs 34 lakh from Bajwa in Sector 123 here. He had made Rs 27 lakh payment for the same. But due to some registration and possession issues in the property, Bajwa was unable to provide him the same plot. Although, he had offered him another property of the same price, which Jaspreet refused to buy and submitted the complainant to the police, said Bajwa’s counsel.

As per the information, Jaspreet had asked Bajwa to return his full amount of Rs 27 lakh but the latter failed to provide the same.

Pertinently, Bajwa is accused in several cases of fraud and cheating regarding property, registered in various police stations.
