Suhitha stuns top seed, enters final

Eighth seed Indian contender Suhitha Maruri stunned top seed Sarah Dev in straight sets to face third seed Reshma Maruri in the girls’ U-18 final of the ongoing ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors (Grade-4) today.

In the first semi-finals played at the Sector 10 CLTA Complex, Suhitha outplayed Sarah 6-3, 6-2. Third seed Reshma also reached the final by defeating seventh seed Riya Uboveja 6-2, 6-4.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ U-18 semi-finals, top seed Nishant Dabas had an easy run over fifth seed Dhruv Tangri. Dabas won the match without conceding a single game 6-0, 6-0. He will be taking up second seed Aman Dahiya, who defeated Yuvan Nandal 6-2 6-0, in the title clash.

Doubles semis

In the boys’ doubles semis, the top seed team of Dabas and Chirag Duhan overpowered Aayush P Bhat and Anargha Ganguly 6-3, 6-2. Bushan Haobam and Yuvan Nandal defeated Daksh Ashok Agrawal and Albert Onichtchenko Segura 6-4, 7-5 in another semi-finals. In the girls’ doubles, Flo Helsen and Mirthe Moens of Belgium defeated top seed pair of Sarah and Riya Uboveja 6-2, 6-4, whereas Maruri sisters - Reshma and Suhitha - logged a comeback 4-6, 6-3 (10-5) win over Hetvee Chaudhari and Pavitra Parikh to set up the title clash.
