Chandigarh: Students of the primary wing-1 of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, celebrated World Paper Bag Day by making paper bags of old newspapers. They showcased their creativity and artistic skills by decorating paper bags. The day was observed to spread awareness on not to use plastic bags among students. Little Josephites made attractive paper bags and decorated these with stickers and other material on the occasion. TNS

Chandigarh: National Reading Month was observed with enthusiasm at Delhi Public School. The aim was to develop reading habits among students. The event started with a ‘Reading day pledge’. Students of Class III to X wholeheartedly participated in a slogan writing on the importance of reading. Activities such as finger puppets and book jacket grabbed the interest of everyone. Students showcased their innovative creative skills on the occasion. Principal Reema Dewan acknowledged efforts and talent of students and encouraged them to befriend with books as these were source of inspiration and knowledge. TNS

Saupin’s School

Chandigarh: The Student Cabinet of Saupin’s School, Sector 32, met Mayor Sarabjit Kaur at her office here on Monday. They apprised Mayor of the initiative taken by the school to make it a “Single use plastic free campus”. Mayor Sarabjit Kaur appreciated efforts of children on spreading awareness on benefits of not using plastic. She encouraged students to spread awareness on the hazards of using plastic in their respective communities. TNS

St Soldier Convent School

Mohali: A special assembly on the theme soil conservation was held at St Soldier International Convent School. Students of Class VIII-B presented thought provoking items on the theme. The participants conveyed the urgent need to save soil in a distinctive way. They urged the audience to plant more trees as it prevents soil erosion and conserves top soil for agricultural use. Principal Anjli Sharma applauded students’ efforts and apprised them about the pivotal role of soil for the survival of humans. TNS

Guru Nanak Foundation Public School

Mohali: Guru Nanak Foundation Public School, Sector 92, held ‘Vanmahotsav’ celebrations to instil personal and social responsibility among students towards safeguarding trees, forests and nature at large. To celebrate the festival of trees, the school conducted a plantation drive in which saplings of medicinal, fruit and shady trees such as neem, peepal, lemon, pear, peach, tulsi, palm, arjun and ashoka were planted by students. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Poonam Sharma said, “Celebration of ‘Vanmahotsav’ is a good way to foster feelings of respect in hearts of students for their environment as well as diverting their attention towards the bigger problem of depleting forest areas in the world.” TNS

AKSIPS-65 Smart School

Mohali: To give an insight to students of Classes III to V about the World Population Day, a poster making competition was held at AKSIPS-65 Smart School here on Monday. Students presented their creative ideas through posters during the competition. School associate director Parnika Singh and Principal Rajminder Kaur Jaitla applauded creative thinking of little ones on the occasion. TNS

Delhi Public School

Mohali: Delhi Public School celebrated French National Day here on Monday. The day started with a euphonious presentation of French national anthem followed by a games like Tambola, which was played with French numbers. Students shook a leg on French songs, ate French cuisine and experienced the French culture closely on the occasion. Students were also made aware about the significance of Bastille Day. Students showed enthusiasm while decorating board and enjoyed the day.
