Panchkula, January 17

After the construction of a railway overbridge (ROB) and a railway underbridge (RUB) in Sector 19 here missed several targets, Haryana Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta fixed new deadlines for the two much-awaited projects.

He was chairing a meeting of officials to review the ongoing development works in the district.

Gupta directed the officials concerned to complete the remaining work of the ROB, being constructed on the Chandigarh-Ambala railway line in Sector 19, by March 31, 2022. The MLA said a majority of the work had been completed and only that of the Railways was pending.

He said a meeting would soon be held with senior officers of the Railways so that the work pending on their part could be completed at the earliest.

He also asked the officials concerned to complete the work of the railway underbridge in Sector 19 by February 15, 2022.

The foundation stone of the ROB was laid by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in February 2019.

In the beginning, a deadline of 15 months was fixed to complete the project. It was later extended to November 4, 2021.

The ROB, being constructed at a cost of Rs35 crore, is a pending demand of local residents.

Residents of Sector 19 and those running businesses in the area said they had to take a longer route to reach other parts of the city due to a delay in the completion of the projects.

Naresh Narang, a city resident, expressed no confidence in the new deadlines fixed by the Haryana Speaker for the completion of two projects.

“The projects will miss the new deadlines too due to the slow pace of work. There is also a lack of willpower and coordination among various departments involved in the projects,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik and Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal were among those present in the meeting.
