The spillage of sewage water has damaged a stretch of road, and potholes have formed there. Two-wheeler riders complain that stagnant sewage water splashes on them when heavy vehicles pass, which does not only cause them inconvenience but is unhygienic, too.

Rishabh Jain, a resident of Zirakpur, said, "The drainage system has a serious problem, which causes the sewage drains to overflow. This not only causes inconvenience to the residents, but it has also damaged the road in the area. The drainage system has to be streamlined to solve the problem of waterlogging."

NHAI officials said housing societies along the road divert their sewage water to the roadside drains, which often choke them which creates a mess.

Chandigarh-ambala underpass opens

One of the two vehicular underpasses (VUP) on the Chandigarh-Ambala national highway near the McDonald’s light point has now been opened for traffic on one side. Although finishing touches are still being given to the VUP, vehicles could be seen taking the elevated road from Chandigarh to Ambala on Friday morning. A few days ago, the Dera Bassi to Chandigarh side of the elevated road was made operational as well.
