Set dangling wires right in six months, Chandigarh Adviser tells department

Posing a risk to residents, the UT Administration is likely to resolve the problem of dangling electricity and cable wires in various parts of the city before the end of this year.

At a meeting today, chaired by UT Adviser Dharam Pal, to discuss the demands of councillors from Ward No. 10 to 18, issues of hanging electricity and cable wires in some sectors was raised citing inconvenience to the public. Keeping in mind the safety of the public, the Adviser issued directions to the Engineering Department to resolve the problem within six months.

At the meeting, the developmental issues revolved around maintenance of community centres in specific wards to cater to the needs of residents.

Councillors tabled projects and development issues that need the attention of the Administration. The chair was also apprised of the need of upgrading health facilities such as dispensaries and rationalising Sampark centres in various sectors. The demand for Sampark centres in various sectors was also highlighted on which the Adviser said suitable action would be taken.

The Adviser stressed the need for upgrading these basic facilities in every ward and directed the officials concerned to take timely action in this regard.

The upkeep of schools was another concern for the councillors. Dharam Pal said he was personally looking into the matter and had asked the Education Secretary to continue inspection of schools and upgrade the infrastructure before the end of the summer break.

He also asked the Chief Architect and the Chief Engineer to jointly visit the sites. The city is seeing an increasing volume of paying guests, especially in areas such as Sector 15 and 35. On this, the Adviser directed police officials to inspect these premises and take a serious view of any violations.

Parking is a concern for city residents with the population having increased manifold. It was decided that in addition to Sector 35 and 22, the feasibility of upgrading parking facilities in Sector 15 will also be studied.

Dog menace in different sectors was also discussed. The forum deliberated on the alternatives to tackle this issue. The Adviser assured the councillors regarding fulfilment of their demands and directed the departments concerned to work speedily in this direction.

Mayor Sarbjit Kaur, Home Secretary Nitin Kumar Yadav, MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, Chief Conservator of Forests Debendra Dalai, Health Secretary Yashpal Garg, SSP Kuldip Singh Chahal, other senior officials of the UT Administration and councillors from Ward 10 to 18 were present at the meeting.
