SD College BCom students against re-exam

Over 60 students of SD College staged a dharna near the VC office, Panjab University, to express resentment against the authorities’ decision to reschedule BCom exams on March 6 and March 9.

A representation to the PU, signed by 347 students, read: “The re-examination schedule for students of only GGDSD College is biased and does not explain the case of similarity in the question paper during mid-semester test (MST) conducted in October 2019 with the semester finals examination held in December 2019.”

They further wrote: “We, as students, were at no fault as the same question paper was given to us in the final examinations as it was in the MST held at our college. The decision for rescheduling of the examination has been taken after three months. We have already been preparing for the semester IV examinations and submitted the fee also. Now, reappearing after a 3-month long period is not a sound solution in this case.”

Students maintained: “The MST conducted in October 2019 in GGDSD College must have already been circulated and was accessible to all students from colleges affiliated to Punjab University. Conducting re-examination only for a handful of students is not a fair decision.”

Anmol Rattan Kamboj (20), second-year BCom student at SD College, said: “We recently got to know that the PU posted on its website that the third semester exam for company law and cost accounting will be held on March 6 and March 9, respectively. We all were shocked, why not other colleges?”

At the protest, they demanded that the exam should either be conducted for all students of Panjab University or for no one at all. “Also, no grace marks should also be awarded to anyone,” they said.

Parvinder Singh, Controler of Examinations, PU, shared: “The Board of Studies (BOS) had taken a call on conducting the exam on December 12. If there’s any resistance against the decision, the Syndicate will have to take a call on this matter.”
