Scrap New Pension Scheme, demand bank employees

On the call of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), more than 800 bank employees and officers of the tricity held a protest at Bank Square, Sector 17, here in support of their demands.

The bank unions are demanding a 20 per cent hike on payslip components, merger of special allowance with basic pay and a uniform five-day work a week. Other demands included scrapping of the New Pension Scheme, improvement in family pension and defined working hours for officers.

According to the protesters, 21 rounds of discussions have been held with the Indian Banks’ Association and sub-committees of workmen unions and officer associations on various dates and occasions so far, but they are yet to reach a consensus.

Earlier, after wage revision talks with the Indian Banks’ Association failed, bank employees’ unions has already called for a two-day nationwide bank strike on January 31 and February 1.
