Show comments

Zirakpur, December 3

Roads and public places remained littered with garbage in most parts of Zirakpur even as the sanitation workers called off their strike on the fifth day of their agitation.

Vinod Chugh and Pradip Sood, leaders of the sanitation workers’ union, said the strike had been called off and services of all eligible workers in Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Lalru would be regularised in the next one week.

Meanwhile, officials said the sanitation workers had started removing garbage from Zirakpur, while in Dera Bassi and Lalru, garbage lifing would begin tomorrow.

Zirakpur Executive Officer Girish Verma said: “The matter has been resolved. Those workers who are eligible for regularisation will be put on regular job.” — TNS
