Sambar strays into residential area in Chandigarh’s Sector 9

Later reaches Sector 18; the animal loses its way from the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary and enters a residential area

A team of the UT Forest and Wildlife Department on Monday morning rescued a sambar after the wild animal strayed into a residential area of the city.

TC Nautiyal, Chief Wildlife Warden, UT, said they received a call around 9.15 am that a sambar had entered the residential area of Sector 9. Soon, a team of the wildlife department reached the spot, but the animal, aged four to five years old, escaped from Sector 9 and reached Sector 18 where it was brought under control around 10.15 am.

The officials took the animal to the veterinary doctor for a checkup after which it was released into the Sukhna Wildfle Sanctuary in the evening, said Nautiyal.

The officer said the sambar had lost its way from the Sukhna Lake Sanctuary and strayed into a residential area.
