Sahil claims gold in race walking

Punjab’s Sahil stunned more experienced athletes to claim gold medal during the men’s 20km race walk on the concluding day of the 11th Indian Open Race Walking National Championship at Sukhna Lake. The 22-year-old from Patiala clocked 39:25 (39 minutes, 25 seconds). He had finished fifth in the men’s 20km race walk on Tuesday.

Paramjeet Singh Bisht of Uttarakhand came second clocking 39:36s, while Asian bronze medallist Vikash Singh of Delhi claimed third position with a time of 39:47s. In the women’s 10km run, Manju Rani of Mansa clinched gold medal in 45:20s, followed by Payal of Uttarakhand (46:04s) and Mokavi Muthurathinam of Tamil Nadu (46:10s).

Goa’s Vijay Omkar Vishwakaram won the men’s 35km race with a time of 2:39:19s, while the women’s 35km gold went to Bandana Patel of UP. In the women’s 35km walk, Bandana Patel of Uttar Pradesh claimed the top honour by clocking 3:11:06s followed by Punjab’s Pooja Kumari (3:17:51s) and Haryana’s Komal (3:23:06s).

Men 20km: Akshdeep Singh (Punjab) 1:19:38, Suraj Panwar (Uttarakhand) 1:19:44, Servin (TN) 1:20:03, Arshpreet Singh (Punjab) 1:20:04; Women 20km: Manju Rani (Punjab) 1:33:00, Payal (Uttarakhand) 1:33:28, Munita Prajapati (Uttarakhand) 1:34.14; Girls U20 10km: Aarti (Haryana) 47:03, Vaishnavi Negi (Uttarakhand) 49:31, Chakpram Naocha C (Manipur) 51:21 Boys U20 10km: Himanshu Kumar (Uttarakhand) 41:11, Aditya Negi (Uttarakhand) 41:12, Roshan Kumar (Jharkhand) 41:28.
