Chandigarh, February 18

A week after making a tongue-in-cheek remark that she had not seen broken roads in the city, Mayor Raj Bala Malik today ordered three Executive Engineers (XENs) of the road division to start road recarpeting work on Monday with a deadline.

I will personally check whether they have started the work or not. I will ensure that the work starts on Monday. Earlier, we could not start the work due to the winter season, which is not conducive for recarpeting. — Raj Bala Malik, Mayor

She directed the officers to list two roads each work on which they will start on Monday. All three officers gave her the names of two roads and assured her that the pending road work will be started on Monday.

“I will personally check whether they have started the work or not. I will ensure that the work starts on Monday. Earlier, we could not start the work due to the winter season, which is not conducive for recarpeting,” she said.

Earlier, UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore and Adviser Manoj Parida had assured the MC of additional funds for road repair, but the civic body has got nothing so far. A senior officer said they were expecting the promised funds within a week. “Even contractors hesitate to take up work when they get to know that the MC has not got funds from the Administration for roads,” said an official.

will start first

The three XENs concerned told the Mayor that work on a V-3 road in Sector 33-34 would be done on Monday. The next day, road recarpeting work would be carried out on a V-3 road in Sector 38-40. On February 26, V3 roads in Sector 9-4 and Sector 8-5 would be covered. The truck parking lot road in Sector 8 and 26 would also be recarpeted. Internal roads in Mauli Complex, too, would be fixed. On February 27, a V4 road and a parking lot stretch along the Sector 8/10 road would be recarpeted.
