Chandigarh, February 16

A timely half century by Karan Kaila helped UT boys recover from initial loss as Chandigarh scored 219 runs at the loss of six wickets on the opening day of the last Ranji Trophy match being played against host Karnataka at Hubli on Friday.

Earlier, the home side won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. UT’s top order — Shivam Bhambri (0), Arsalan Khan (8) and captain Manan Vohra (21) — failed to deliver with 37/3 on the board. Karan and Kunal Mahajan played a valuable 71-run partnership to steer the score to 108. Kunal (34) was bowled out by Hardik Raj in the 45th over.

Karan was instrumental in yet another vital 46-run partnership with Ankit Kaushik for the fifth wicket. Kaushik (25) failed against the same bowler, Hardik, and left the crease as the scoreboard announced 154/5.

Later, Karan was trapped LBW by Vyashak at the team score of 200. The batter scored 79 runs off 207 deliveries studded with nine boundaries.

Chandigarh scored 219 runs at the loss of six wickets with batters Mayank Sidhu (31) and Gurinder Singh (10) unbeaten before the stumps were drawn.
